For the first time in my life I did not know the title of the album before I even started making it. And there are a lot of things to think about, such as:
1. Americans don’t like Italian titles, unless they are very straightforward (like “Aria”, “Ciao” and similar). “Prendi l’onda”, my favourite one (but not LJ’s) is not simple enough.
2. The Italian public would find it really too strange end pretentious for an Italian band with Italian lyrics to release an album in Italy with a title in English. So we can’t afford “Wave” (good though!) and similar.
3. It would be a mistake to have the same album with two titles, since today’s music is database-driven.
So we can do one of two things. Either we ditch point 3 and go for the title with the most impact on the Italian public, which seems to be “Prendi l’onda”. Or we hold point 3 firm, and we discard every title which is not international. In the latter case, “Mappa Mondo” is probably the best we have come up with.
Or we can call it just “Onda”. Or even “Mondo”. Oh, whatever.
Valerio Soave, Mescal’s president, wants an English version of Check in. My friend Mike Brooks, lead singer and author of Welsh band Here Be Dragons, contributed very good English lyrics, which Peter and I edited up a bit. Another challenge for Lisa.
Saro’ un informatico, ma a me Wave piace. Un po’ come Home: non e’ italiano ma c’e’ lo stesso da tempo nel gergo di chi ha a che fare con robe elettroniche [e voi ne avete un bel po’ a che fare ;)].
Prendi l’onda non mi piace manco pe gnente :). Sembrerebbe un disco del Piotta… 🙂

Considering the fact that US has a huge population of Hispanic people and Brazilian music/culture is very popular worldwide now, “Onda” must be a very familiar word to most people everywhere because it is also found in Spanish and Portuguese languages. So, one vote for “Onda” from Japan.
Decisamente meglio Onda che Prendi l’onda. Wave suona bene, ma in Italia farebbe davvero storcere qualche naso (sempre che l’idea di far storcere nasi sia da considerare sbagliata…). Ma altre idee non ce ne sono? Passate più di un mese in studio e non vi salta in mente qualche altra idea, che diamine… Mi scervello e vi faccio qualche altra proposta io, che oggi sono in vena, forse…

Eccone subito una: Madre. Parola conosciuta in tutto il mondo occidentale, femminile, che richiama l’idea di origine (o di radici, per capirsi), avvolgente.

sarò forse un po’ prosaico ma se devo immaginare che -come sembra- questo diventi un disco fondamentale nella vostra produzione, “Mappa Mondo” è un titolo più da “album classico”.
“Onda” ha in sé un vago understatement che però suona paradossalmente pretenzioso. Non so spiegare perché.
Piuttosto, preferisco “L’onda”, con l’articolo che è più personale (e meno Jobim).
“Prendi l’onda” è effettivamente un po’ Piotta. Inoltre, ho sempre preferito gli album che non riprendono esattamente il titolo di una canzone.
