Siamo a casa! Abbiamo fatto il viaggio di ritorno con le mondine fino a Linate, e lì ci siamo divisi con grandi abbracci. Stamattina ho ricevuto una mail commossa da Steve Heath, coordinatore del Concert of Colors:

I cari amici
Wow, che fine settimana abbiamo avuto qui a Detroit! Voglio mandare a tutti i voi i nostri ringraziamenti, con tutto il cuore, per il vostro grande contributo al festival e per avere reso il Concert of Colors 2007 una delle edizioni più memorabili nei 15 anni di storia del nostro festival.
E’ improbabile che la città di Detroit sia mai più la stessa dopo la vostra memorabile visita e i segni che avete lasciato dappertutto, dalla sala da concerto al People Mover [il tram sopraelevato di Detroit, nota di Alberto] e alla hall dell’albergo avete affascinato tutti quelli che avete incontrato. Vogliamo che sappiate quanto ha significato per noi avervi qui per questa produzione, davvero storica. Devo dirvi che il vostro concerto ha probabilmente stabilito un record di partecipazione per quanto riguarda la presenza della comunità italiana al nostro festival, che normalmente non è molto presente. E’ stato anche uno dei nostri concerti più affollati di tutti i tempi per una performance pomeridiana (in genere abbiamo così tanta gente solo per i due concerti finali).
Le ovazioni che il pubblico vi ha tributato, perfino prima che iniziaste a cantare, sono state davvero meritate, non solo per il concerto, ma per l’ispirazione che avete dato a tante persone. L’ispirazione a resistere all’ingiustizia dovunque si trovi, l’ispirazione a non lasciare che barriere e confini ci impediscano di seguire i nostri sogni; di qualunque tipo di barriere si tratti, geografiche, economiche, di età, sesso o opportunità.

Come ho detto ad Alberto quando siete ripartiti, qualunque cosa faremo in futuro sappiamo che almeno per una volta, in questo momento così speciale, siamo stati testimoni di qualcosa di veramente magico.

Wow. What a weekend it was for us in Detroit! I want to send our heartfelt thanks to all for your great contributions to our festival and for making the 2007 Concert of Colors one of the most memorable in our 15 year history.
It’s unlikely that the city of Detroit will ever be quite the same after your memorable visit and the mark you left everywhere, from the concert hall to the People Mover, to the hotel lobby you charmed everyone in your path. We want you to know how much it has meant for us to have you here for this very historic production. I must tell you that this was probably a record crowd for us in terms of the participation of the Italian community at our festival, who don’t normally attend in big numbers. It was also one of our biggest crowds for an act performing this early in the day. (Usually on the final act and penultimate act perhaps get crowds this large.)
The ovations that the audience gave you, even before you began to perform, were richly deserved, not just for your performance, but for the inspiration you have given to so many others. Inspiration to resist injustice whereever we may find it, inspiration to not let barriers or boundaries inhibit us from pursuing our dreams; whether they be barriers of geography, economics, age, sex, or opportunity.

We won’t soon forget this experience (because we’ll be eating your Parmesan cheese for weeks to come!) As I told Alberto upon your departure, regardless of what we may do in the future, we know that at least once, on this very special moment in time, we witnessed something truly magical.
